PEYRONIE'S DISEASE
The etiology of the disease is unknown. It is attributed to an attack of the fibrous membrane of the penis (repeated micro-injuries to the penis or penile vessels), which is accompanied by local inflammation and the development of a locally fibrous plaque on the fibrous membrane which causes flexion of the penis which to a large extent causes painful sexual intercourse. The disease appears on average at 55-60 years. Predisposing factors include smoking, coronary heart disease, erectile dysfunction, excessive alcohol consumption, diabetes mellitus, lipid profile disorders, etc.
The diagnosis is based on the history, the clinical examination of the genitourinary system and regarding the penis it is recommended to examine it in an erect position. Treatment can be either pharmaceutical or surgical. Oral and topical penile medication has been found to have relatively poor results. In order to apply surgical treatment, the damage to the penis must have stabilized and at least 3 months have passed without pain and worsening of the flexion. Surgical treatment shows very good results.
